The 职业影响奖 annually recognizes one faculty and one staff member who have gone above and beyond in encouraging and supporting the career exploration, I大学学生的准备和成功.

This award is offered annually to one faculty member and one staff member whose work helps advance 职业服务' mission to provide U of I students and alumni with services and resources that empower them as they make critical life decisions and pursue career success.

Over the 20+ years that Bill has worked at University of Idaho, he has provided students with a remarkable educational experience that encourages them to realize their potential and find work they are passionate about. 他采用了新颖的教学方法, 例如, the walking oral exam where students walk and talk with him as part of their semester wrap-up to learn to do exactly the sort of behavior that networking often requires. 在杰瑞的大学生涯早期, he noted that students in Geosciences were not receiving what he thought was needed mentoring and instruction relative to career choices. 在回应, he began to set aside a few lectures in each course to be devoted to things such as deciding if graduate school was an appropriate choice, what career opportunities were available and what skills students should focus on in order to be successful in those careers. Student response encouraged Jerry to undertake a more ambitious plan. While he still includes the career-focused lectures in each course, he also set out to introduce curricular elements that could provide what students need.

Mindy, the CNR Director of Recruitment and Stakeholder Engagement, is a remarkable individual who goes above and beyond to support students’ involvement in searching for and gaining hands-on, 从实践经验中学习, as well as advising them through obstacles and challenges. Her commitment to helping students find their place in the world of natural resources is evident in her approach to working with students. One of Mindy’s greatest strengths is her ability to connect with students and understand their motivations for pursuing careers in natural resources. 她花时间和每个学生交谈, delving deeper into their interests and skill sets, and encourages them to gain as much hands-on experience as possible.

Schiele involves undergraduates in research early in their academic careers, which helps introduce students to possible career options and paths. Pilgeram reorganized a senior capstone course into two tracks — one for students applying for graduate school and a second for students who will be leaving the university and looking for work. Not only has she redesigned the course to benefit student’s career needs, but she has emphasized practical and personal skills in the process. 除了, each week she has a different alumnus talk about how they pursued and found work after leaving University of Idaho.

Becker invites her students to consider their unique values and articulate their life goals both within the context of higher education and beyond. Recently, Becker has created a pilot major exploration program that is focused on discovery and uses interactive cards to narrow in on majors of interest.

This award is open to all U of I faculty and staff across the state (职业服务 staff are not eligible). Anyone from U of I can nominate (including students and alumni). Award recipients will receive a monetary award, recognition and a plaque from 职业服务.
